If the prospect of moving to South Africa wasn’t already attractive enough, then perhaps the recent crowning of our very own Rolene Strauss as Miss World might revitalize your interest in our marvelous country. At only 22, Strauss has managed to conquer the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world, while simultaneously being enrolled as a 4th year medical student, shattering the hitherto stereotype that pageant contestants can’t be beautiful as well as intelligent. South Africa’s capacity to produce determined and highly capable young women is historically documented, with an assortment of examples emerging from the ANC Women’s League and countless others scattered across various facets of society.
